HPSfAA 2014 Annual Conference

"Applying Anthropology: Enhancing Assets and Building Capaity in the 21st Century"

Tivoli Student Union,

Auraria Campus, Denver, CO

For the past two decades community developers have focused on community assets in order to enhance local economies and environments.  Yet, in the current global economy, particular segments of society are finding themselves increasingly marginalized by the global market and alienated from the very political processes that impose detrimental effects on that environment.  Thus, the need for partnerships between social scientists and local communities to enhance assets and build local capacity is perhaps greater than ever before.  Through working with communities, stakeholders, governmental entities, academics, and organizations (both for and non-profit), applied anthropologists have established unique methodologies and methods, and have engaged in participatory development programs that have increased the communities’ capacity to represent themselves as well as utilize their various types of assets such as political assets, economic assets, cultural assets, and social assets.

If you or your community, students, agencies, coalitions, organizations, teams, or colleagues have a story to tell, idea to explore, paper to present, poster to exhibit, research to expand our knowledge or experiences to share, please join us!   We encourage you to submit your abstracts and panels.
